Leander

My name is Leander Jones. I hail from London originally and I never planned to be a writer. I have always had a habit of jotting down my thoughts in a notebook, or on any scrap of paper I could get my hands on. Bin bags full of receipts and napkins and old envelopes covered in my teenage scribbles lie somewhere in the dark depths of my mum’s garage – with the vague idea that I, or some poor descendent, may try and make sense of them again one day. But my writing proper began accidentally. Not having much money, I started writing silly poems for my friends in lieu of birthday presents and such. At some point I began to receive more than just polite chuckles in return; people really seemed to like them, and they began telling me I should take it more seriously. The idea of taking silly poetry seriously was a little strange at first, but I was soon performing at Spoken Word events under the alias Flob Robertson. Over time my style diversified to also include more ‘serious’ poetry and short stories, which in turn became the gateway to a writing career more generally. At the moment I am focussed mainly on journalism and non-fiction. I think writing for me has always been a way of understanding the world. I like trying to find the universal relevance in every snapshot of life.
