I grew up in outer Sydney on a property that had once been a racetrack, and spent my childhood in gumboots under the expansive Australian sky. Growing up outdoors has had a huge influence on my work – with setting becoming character in its own right.
My current focus is writing middle grade and young adult novels. History and mythology constantly provide me with inspiration, and I love finding ways to combine the two. My narratives typically explore the empowerment of girls and young women, a theme I’m passionate about. At present, I’m working on a novel set during the final year of the Staatliches Bauhaus – which brought me to Berlin – and a world-slip junior novel heavily influenced by a month spent in the Finnish forest.
I run a number of community activities for writers, including Write Together Berlin, Poetry Planting and Another Country Story. You can find out more about these at www.luciestevens.com
