I’m a British-American writer and painter currently based in Berlin. I write short stories that vary in length and form. My writing is rooted in my fascination with and faith in storytelling: the belief that the way we tell stories – and the kinds of stories we tell – is essential to how we read and conduct our lives. My stories are about the ones we tell ourselves. They are about the imperfection, beauty, and danger of how we use storytelling to process our lives – shaping a confusion of contingency, desire, action and misunderstanding into something composed by cause and effect, with a beginning, middle, and end. My writing is an effort to balance the artifice and the truth of this process, and to capture the humor and strangeness that light up the strange drama of the everyday.
